Stroke Symptoms

A stroke happens fast. The most common signs of a stroke are sudden:

  • numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of your body
  • trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination
  • confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • severe headache with no known cause

If you have any of these symptoms or see anyone with these symptoms, call 911 right away. Every minute counts!

If you are having a stroke, you may not be able to call 911. In fact, you may not even be able to move or talk! In most stroke cases, it is a family member, coworker, or other bystander who calls 911. That is why everyone should become familiar with the signs of a stroke.
